Adam was born on June 13, 1968, in the town of New York, Owego. He comes from a long line of scrap metalworkers. A collection of 60 pieces of ancient stoneware had already been amassed by 1982. The Owego Free Academy is where he received his education. His next step was to enroll at Long Island University and major in banking. At the time, he worked in a Manhattan art gallery. A gallery he founded in Greenwich Village in 1991 is called American Folk Art Gallery. The company Ben Weitsman & Son, which processes scrap, hired him as a Vice President in 1995.
